Welcome
The Sherwood Lawn Bowling Club has been an island fixture since 1982, and it represents the only active group in the province keeping up regular participation in this unique sporting activity. Lawn bowling is similar to the Italian game of bocce; think of it as a warm season companion to the great Canadian institution of curling. A number of our current members, in fact, routinely slide on over to the greens in Charlottetown after a winter on the ice!
Here's a summary about the game, which has been played in Britain in some form since the 13th century! (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowls) – today, it’s fun and friendly competition for all ages. At the beginning of June each year, we roll into a new season on PEI at 10 ½ Juniper Drive in Charlottetown, and it would be great to have you join us. There are plenty of pickup games, a few regular leagues, and the occasional tournament for dedicated players.
See our most recent schedule here ny clicking on the link above. Drop us a line with any questions via our Contact page.
Just bring yourself by, and come with friends – just behind the Cody Banks Arena – we have everything you’ll need on site to get started!
Dear All,
The sun is out, and temperatures are rising... sure signs that we should get rolling for the season at Sherwood Lawn Bowling Club.
A reminder first about registration -- if you'd like to join for the season, there will be two open events at the club before we start bowling sessions -- cost $100 for the season, lockers also available:
1) Wednesday, May 28 from 630 PM to 8 PM
2) Saturday, May 31 from 930 AM to 11 AM
The first day of bowling will be right after that second registration -- June 1. Since it's a Sunday, we won't plan to have any special event or structure... just a casual warm up for folks to get used to being back on the greens again. Here is the summary of details for that morning and the days ahead:
Sunday, June 1: ~ 930 AM arrival for a 10 AM start.
Monday, June 2: ~ 230 PM arrival for a 3 PM start.
Tuesday, June 3: ~ 9 AM arrival for a 930 AM start.
Wednesday, June 4: ~ 630 PM arrival for a 7 PM start.
Thursday, June 5: ~ 9 AM arrival for a 930 AM start.
Saturday, June 7: ~ 9 AM arrival for a 930 AM start. It's Bowls Canada Day!
And then, Saturday June 14 will be our Open House -- with an intentional focus on welcoming new people to lawn bowling, dedicating our session time to being available to teach the game as we play. We should plan to start arriving at 9AM to have a bit more time to get ready for a 10 AM start.
Members and their guests are welcome to use the greens outside of scheduled sessions, as well. Only the mornings into early afternoon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are out due to the need for city greenskeeping work to take place at those times.
Lastly, I'd like to thank all the folks who contribute to the regular good running of the club as we get ready to open. Finances are in solid shape. We will rely, gratefully, upon the crew of people who do regular rolling of the greens again this year.
Let's continue our outreach efforts and bring more friends.
Feel free to forward this email to others who might be interested. If any names/addresses should be removed from the list, please let me know.
See you soon!
